Navigation Education delivers the ITC Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid. It is suitable for child care establishments (primary schools, nurseries, childminders, etc). This is the first aid training course which allows child carers to meet the statutory requirements as laid out in the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework. It is the obvious first aid training choice for primary schools as it deals with the management of first aid incidents involving children up to puberty. This course is Ofqual accredited. Overview
ITC Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid
This course is for those who might have to identify and manage emergency situations or manage minor everyday occurrences when looking after pre-puberty children. This qualification meets Ofsted requirements for those working in early years settings and is one of those linked to in the Statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) document which comes into force on 01/09/14. The statutory document requires at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate 'to be on the premises and available at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings'.
It also represents the best practice first aid qualification to hold for staff who look after all ages of Primary School children.
QCF Recognition This qualification is part of the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF) regulated by OfQual (the official regulator of qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland).
Qualification Structure This qualification is built from 2 mandatory units of assessment:
Unit 1 Emergency Paediatric First Aid (QCF code H/506/0792)
Unit 2 Managing Paediatric Illness, Injuries and Emergencies (QCF code D/506/0791)
Passing both units lead to the ITC Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF Qualification number 601/3327/2)
Course Duration Normally 2-days (minimum of 12 hours contact training time)
Content On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:
Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider.
Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction.
Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding.
Understand how to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock.
Understand how to provide first aid to an infant and a child with anaphylaxis.
Be able to administer first aid to an infant and a child with injuries to bones, joints and muscles.
Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with head and spinal injuries.
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose.
Understand how to administer emergency first aid to an infant and a child with a chronic medical condition or sudden illness.
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and cold.
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who has sustained an electric shock.
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with burns or scalds.
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who has been poisoned.
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who has been bitten or stung.
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with minor injuries.
Understand how to complete records relating to illnesses, injuries and emergencies.
